A month in Blowing Rock
Life slows down in this special place
Elkstone is a Craftsman home near the village of Blowing Rock with what Lisa calls a million-dollar view: Grandfather Mountain, Hawksbill, Table Rock and the Blowing Rock itself. It is rented by the month, with a 28-night minimum, for people who want to live here for a while: walk to town, work from the office upstairs, come home to the fire.

Some mornings the valleys below fill with cloud and the ridges stand up out of it.
Why it's called Elkstone
The house that stood here first had fireplaces of Elkstone, a rock native to the area, and the old stone still shows in the outside fire pit and the stone wall in front. Lisa carried it inside: an antique antler chandelier from a castle in Germany graces the entryway, and a light sconce came from the Mayview Manor, the grand hotel Blowing Rock once had.

Work with the view
Upstairs there is a full-size home office, a pub table for cards, a second flat-screen TV and a sitting area that doubles as a third bedroom with a sleep sofa and a twin bed. The view is best from the upstairs balcony, and a large workroom on the main floor gives a second place to work.
The yard and the fire
A back yard with roses, lilies and rhododendron, a fenced yard for the dog and a Solo Stove fire pit.
A note from Lisa
I love coming into this home with its amazing views! The world just slows down when I am relaxing on the decks or in front of the fireplace. It is a quiet place even though it is close to town. We have added extra insulation in all the walls so that you don't hear the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
